Pride’s Final Edition: The 1985 World Grand Champion Tennessee Walking Horse
Pride’s Final Edition, the 1985 World Grand Champion Tennessee Walking Horse, stands as a symbol of excellence and grace in the equestrian world. This black stallion, born on May 31, 1980, was bred by J.C. Carpenter of Pulaski, Tennessee. With a distinctive star and snip on his coat, he descended from an illustrious lineage that included legendary names like Midnight Sun, Ebony Masterpiece, Merry Go Boy, and Roan Allen F-38.
A Pedigree of Champions
Sired by Pride of Midnight H.F. and out of Ebony’s C.C., Pride’s Final Edition displayed his potential early. In 1982, during only his second competition, he claimed the two-year-old division and stake with rider Scott Benham, marking the beginning of an extraordinary career. Under the guidance of trainer and rider Ramsey Bullington, he continued to excel, earning division and stake titles as a three-year-old in 1983 and another division title in 1984. Despite a minor health setback that year, his brilliance remained undeniable.
Triumph at the 1985 Celebration
The pinnacle of his career came on August 31, 1985, at the 47th annual Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration in Shelbyville, Tennessee. Heading into the World Grand Championship Stake, Pride’s Final Edition had already secured six world titles and victories at major shows in Gallatin, Lewisburg, and Belfast, Tennessee.
At the Celebration, he won the Division A, Over 15.2 Stallion Class, setting the stage for the Big Stake. Competing against 13 other elite horses, Pride’s Final Edition captivated the audience with his poise and brilliance. Guided by Bullington, he claimed the World Grand Champion title, cementing his place in history.
A New Chapter as a Sire
Following his victory, Pride’s Final Edition retired to stud at Tri-Oaks Farm near Shelbyville, owned by the Joe Christmas family. Under the supervision of Scott and Libby Benham, he became known as “the sire of the future,” passing on his exceptional traits to the next generation of Tennessee Walking Horses.
A Lasting Legacy
Pride’s Final Edition’s journey from a promising colt to a celebrated champion exemplifies the dedication and artistry of the Tennessee Walking Horse community. His legacy endures not only through his competitive achievements but also through his impact as a sire, shaping the future of the breed for generations to come.
This remarkable stallion remains a testament to the timeless grace and brilliance of Tennessee Walking Horses, embodying their enduring values and traditions.
